Cricut Access Challenge BONUS: Birthday Cake Numbers

BONUS Number Candles

Based on the response from this morning’s Birthday Cake Topper post, I can see there is a great deal of interest in making the celebration of birthdays special.

So I thought I would also give you the Design Space file for my Birthday Cake Numbers, too.

Candle numbers

In this DS file, which can be found on both Pinterest and the Cricut Community, you will find two sets of “Candle Numbers”, which you can mix and match to your heart’s content!  These are great for birthday celebrations that are a Big Deal–like Sweet 16 or turning 50–and can be cut in any color combination you’d like.

As you can see I like shiny stuff and anything pink!

I finished the numbers the same was as my Happy Birthday Cake Toppers–with pieces of bamboo skewers–but you could also use toothpicks to keep the numbers in place.

Squirrel this file away for your next birthday celebration and experiment a bit.  You won’t be disappointing!

And stay tuned for future projects featuring all kinds of materials including acetate, bass wood, Foil, poster board, fabric and more!!

“Go forth and Cricut, my friends!”

Best always,

Miss Rita

Cricut Access Challenge: Birthday Cake Toppers

At my house, Birthday Cakes have always been a big deal, so I never could wrap my head around the idea that a beautiful cake could get any better…that is until I found out about Birthday Cake Toppers!

Big or small, any cake will be made ten times better with a Birthday Cake Topper!

Thankfully–with a Cricut–making one of these beautiful Happy Birthday Cake Toppers isn’t costly or difficult to create! Plus you can personalize it to your heart’s content…because: Cricut!!

In today’s Cricut Access Challenge, I’m giving you four “free-to-Access-subscribers” Happy Birthday Cake Toppers in a standard size.

You can play around with the size, of course, but I’ve found this 8 1/2″ size works well with most cakes and keeps the topper sturdy enough to avoid flopping.

In my examples, I’ve used a variety of materials including glitter cardstock, Cricut Sparkle Paper and Cricut Foil Kraft Board, which are all pretty sturdy by themselves, but to make them even stronger, I cut out a backing from Cricut Kraft Board and glue it to all the pieces.

After you’ve cut out the topper and backing, all that’s left is affixing the picks to the back of the topper. I use bamboo shishkebab skewers that I cut down for the picks, which I glue on with hot glue.

The results are so amazing that everyone will think you bought it on Etsy!

Just one more example of how your Cricut can be your secret weapon for AWESOMENESS!

Cricut Access Challenge: February Calendar Elements

fullsizeoutput_fa5It’s almost February and time to change the calendar!

Even though it’s usually the snowiest month here in New England, it’s chock full of exciting events that simply cannot be missed!

Groundhog Day, Chinese New Year, Presidents Day and, of course, Valentine’s Day make this a super fun month to celebrate–especially when you keep calendars.  I’m thinking especially of those large cork boards you often see in schools, institutions and government buildings, but all of these calendar pieces can be cut as sized or re-sized to fit your particular project.

Whatever the size, making a big deal out of day-to-day living is ALWAYS fun and now it’s easy with today’s Cricut Access Challenge!

Maybe you are a teacher or an administrator that is “in charge” of preparing the monthly calendar. If so, then this project is for you!

Since I will be doing this every month, you can jump in any time!
